Become an Alterations Specialist
Sometimes all you need is a fix. Take your alterations into your own hands and learn some essential skills. In this advanced-beginner course, you will learn how to take-in and let out a garment, how to adjust shoulders and sleeve heads, and how to slim down a shirt, dress, and trousers. Bring along a few different garments that is in need of a change or some tender loving care.

Supply List:
- 250m spool of matching or contrasting polyester thread (Preferably Gutterman or Coats)
- Dressmaking Pins (Glass, Pearl, or Plastic head)
- Hand sewing needles
- Thread Snips
- Soft Measuring Tape
**You will need to bring the appropriate garments for each session to execute the alteration.

- Prerequisite: Sew 102 equivalent or above
Course Outline
Class 1: Taking in – Letting Out the Waist
How to adjust bottoms to fit at the waist. This includes working with waistbands.
Class 2: Slimming (Trousers)
Altering a wide leg or boot cut trouser into a straight or slim leg.
Class 3: Sleeves
Learn how to take out excess bulk, adjust shoulders, and sleeve head for a better fit.
Class 4: Slimming (Shirts & Dresses)
Adjusting a shirt or dress to fit at the waist and hips. Learn how to add a dart if one does not currently exist in the garment.
