As I have driven myself mental by thinking of the perfect first post to write, I thought I would take this opportunity to say hello. Back in December when I relocated back to my hometown in Canada, I applied for a grant and started planning and writing my proposal for a sewing cafe in the heart of Edmonton. It’s been four months since I submitted my proposal and it will be at least another eight weeks before I hear back about the status of my application. I decided to no longer subject myself to the pains of the waiting game and have started developing ideas and formulating blog posts.
The House of Sew is going to be a place where we get back to the basics, back to handmade life, back to finding satisfaction in our own blood, sweat, and tears. My aim is to provide an inspirational and supportive environment for people to express their individuality with a sustainable approach towards fashion. Hopefully one day, we will depart from this constant desire for instant gratification.
Not only is sewing slowly becoming a dying skill, I see a massive gap in resources that is currently available to those who are interested in this craft: places to learn, places to meet other sewists, shops purveying quality fabrics & haberdasheries, and most importantly, a community. This is why I want to build The House of Sew and create for us here in Edmonton. I am dedicated to embark on this journey and I am super excited to see it all come together.
Stick with me, keep checking back as it grows and grows!
